Urban Campout is April 17!

March, 2008

Urban Campout Logo 2008Join us for an interactive evening full of Girl Scout fun at Reliant Center on Thursday evening, April 17, 2008. Urban Campout is an all adult fundraising gala benefiting community outreach programs for more than 18,000 girls from elementary to high school in low-to-middle income communities.

At Urban Campout you and your guests have the opportunity to explore camp activities casually dressed in an air-conditioned setting while perusing a unique and wonderful silent auction. Urban Campout takes camping to a new level.

This year Urban Campout will honor Brenda and Tom Koch. Both Tom and Brenda grew up in Scouting and are proud to say their daughters are third generation Girl Scouts.

Calling all service units and special interest groups!

It's that time of year again when we call upon you to help other girls enjoy all the benefits and fun of Girl Scouting. GSSJC is asking your service unit or special interest group to volunteer for a service project to provide Urban Campout 2008 with a creative and attractive Silent Auction goodie basket. Since we are asking that each basket be at least $150 in value, your service unit or special interest group may want to team up. The baskets were a big success last year. The more unique the basket design, the greater its value in the Silent Auction. So, be creative, think outside of the basket!

When packaging the auction item, be sure to make it easy to transport, set up, and pack up for the buyer to take home. Include an Auction Donor form and an inventory list of individual items included. Basket must be received no later than 4:30 p.m. March 14. Sample basket ideas include:

  • Picnic basket full of picnic delights: tablecloth, colorful dishes, cook- out cookbook and spices, etc
  • Small trunk or book bag filled with new children's or adult books
  • Large hat box filled with scented bath accessories…bath oil beads, creams and lotions, etc.
  • Wheelbarrow with gardening tools, Texas gardening books, gift certificate for plants, seeds, etc.
  • Child's wagon with games and toys
  • Theme baskets: Coffees, Video Movie Night, Date Night, Texas, Cooking, Barbecuing, Dorm room decorating, Vacation Travel...
  • Holiday baskets: Mother's Day, Father's Day, Graduation, New Baby...
  • Ice chest with camping gear, fishing gear or sports equipment

Thank you for your consideration of this worthwhile event. If you would like an auction donor form or have any questions, call Sherry Williams at 281-723-8198 or Diana Taub at 713-292-0358.

Invest in a Bright Future

Girl Scouting is for every girl, everywhere. A contribution to Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council is an investment in our collective futures. If you share our organization’s concern for the girls of today, you, too, can make a difference. For every registered Girl Scout, our Council invests $210 annually to provide the best programs, facilities and training for adult leaders, girls, and volunteers. The $10 annual Girl Scout membership fee does not address that cost, since it goes directly to Girl Scouts of the USA.
