  • What is Studio 2B anyway?
Studio 2B is a new way of serving girls.  Studio 2B is about who girls are, who they are becoming, how they belong, what they believe, and how they are building the world around them.  In Studio 2B, girls find a safe place to participate in many different kinds of activities, gain new experiences, take healthy risks, or just be with other girls.  Studio 2B is for every girl 11-17, everywhere, who would like to participate.
  • Can you explain the name Studio 2B?
The name Studio 2B was developed through field-testing hundreds of names with girls around the country.  Ultimately, the appeal of Studio 2B to girls is that it connotes place and belonging, sounds sophisticated, and conveys a sense of mystery.
  • Is Studio 2B "real" Girl Scouts?
Yes!  Girls in Studio 2B are registered Girl Scouts, pay membership dues, and accept the Girl Scout Promise and Law.
  • Can girls continue using the names Cadette and Senior?
Girls who want to continue using those names may do so.
  • Where do Juliettes  fit in?
Being a Juliette is one way for individually registered girls to identify themselves.  Studio 2B members can choose to participate either independently or in groups.
  • Will the term Girl Scout leader not be used?
Studio 2B resources refer to adult volunteers who work with girls 11-17 as advisors.  Substituting advisor for leader says they want to spend time with adults who empower, coach, and support them.  Girls 11-17 are leaders; the adults who help them play an advisory role.
  • What is the message to volunteers who are not 18 – 29?
    "Girls need you, too!"
Photo of Girls near sail boatsThe research revealed girls had three requests:
    • First, that all adults practice a more "By Girls, For Girls" approach. The Studio 2B Guide for Advisors provides insights and exercises to help all adults in Girl Scouts be more teen-savvy.  Remember, “teen-savvy” is an attitude, not an age!
    • Second, girls want to spend some of their time with volunteers ages 18-29.  They are eager for a glimpse of their near future, and adults this age are uniquely able to offer this opportunity.
    • Third, when girls want to pursue a particular passion, such as outdoor adventures, sports, aeronautics, they pursue it with adults who are experts.  The Studio 2B Guide for Advisors provides ideas about building volunteer teams so that girls can connect with the many different adults of all ages that they need in their lives
  • How do girls and adults register in Studio 2B?
Continue using the current registration forms and systems.
  • What’s not changing?
Studio 2B members and volunteers are Girl Scouts.  They accept the Girl Scout Promise and Law, pay membership dues, follow the Safety-Wise guidelines and standards.  They will participate in product sales if they choose to do so.
  • Can Juniors really participate in Studio 2B?
Yes, Juniors are eligible to participate once they are 11 years old.
  • Can a Studio 2B members work on Silver and Gold Award projects?
Absolutely.  Girls who would like to complete a Girl Scout Silver or Gold Award Project and earn these high-level awards can certainly do so.  They should follow the guidelines in the Cadette Girl Scout Handbook and A Resource Book for Senior Girl Scouts.  New resources that are based on input from girls, advisors, and councils to help coach girls thought the process of earning the awards are in development.  These will be available in 2004 and will be designed to fit inside the Studio 2B Basics binder.
  • Can current mixed-aged groups continue to exist?
    Yes!
