(Houston-January 2, 2002) Girl
Scouts of San Jacinto Council will host a Cookie Pep Rally to officially kick
off the 53rd annual Cookie Sale at the Compaq Center, Sunday, January
6, 2002, from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Over 4,800 Girl Scouts and their families from
across southeast Texas are expected to participate in this huge event.
The festivities will kick-off with activities designed to teach
Girl Scouts: safety while selling door-to door, marketing and salesmanship, the
basics of booth sales, and the importance of setting goals. The Pep Rally will
follow the activities at 3:00 p.m. and will include singing, dancing, and lots
of cheering! Leslie T Travis of 95*7
KIKK FM will be Mistress of Ceremonies.
As a former Girl Scout and district high seller in her home council,
Leslie T knows her cookies! The Pep
Rally will focus on goal setting and will introduce the newest addition to the
best selling Girl Scout Cookie line up, the “Friendship Circle.”
“This year’s Cookie
Sale theme is Go There. We want to teach the girls to set goals and
then Go There. As adults we promise to Be There to help them on their way,” says Dianne Massie, chair of
the Council’s Cookie Sale Committee.
“Girls will have a chance to set their Cookie Sales goals and our guests
at the Pep Rally will share their goal setting success stories with our girls.”
Girl Scouts and
their families will attend the Houston Aeros game that immediately follows the
event. “We are pleased to be able to
support the Girl Scouts in the their efforts to teach girls lifetime skills
they will need to have a successful Cookie Sale,” say Karlyn Keuter of the
Aeros Hockey Team. “Many of today’s
successful women learned key skills by participating in the Girl Scout Cookie
Sale, and to be able to share in the fun and excitement of this event is
inspiring.”
The Girl Scouts of
San Jacinto Council Cookie Sale begins on January 12, 2002 when girls will go
door-to-door taking orders. Booth sales
will begin February 22, 2002 through March 24, 2002. Customers may call the Cookie Hotline at 713-292-0400 or 1-888-GSCookie
to order cookies.
