Girl Scout Daughters and Mothers Explore Breast Cancer Awareness with

(FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—Houston, October, 2003) Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council’s Breast Cancer Awareness Committee will host ‘Daisies In Bloom: A Celebration of Life”, a special program for mothers and daughters about breast cancer awareness, at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, 1515 Holcombe, on Saturday, October 25 from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. Girl Scout Cadettes and Seniors will attend the event with their mothers or other special female adult.
Activities include a performance from the Pink Ribbon Dancers, “dancers in motion against breast cancer,” presentations from mammography technologists and how-to sessions on recognizing symptoms and conducting breast self-exams.
“It is truly imperative that we educate the next generation of young girls and women about breast cancer. Prevention is key to stalling this disease,” says Dorothy Patterson, chair of the San Jacinto Council’s Breast Cancer Awareness Committee.
The Daisies in Bloom event has grown every year, and has evolved as the signature breast health awareness event for the San Jacinto Council. Participating Girl Scouts will also tour the Nellie B. Connally Breast Center, and see what a mammogram machine looks like. Each participating mother/daughter team will learn the three components of good breast health.
