Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council (GSSJC) recently honored Girl Scout volunteers Cindy Baden, Mary Cay Crissman, Brandy Gustafson, Karen Hazlett, and Carmela Simmons with the Appreciation Pin for their many years of service to the organization. This award is presented to Girl Scout adults who have given outstanding service above the expectations required by the volunteer positions they have held in the organization. These women received their awards at the Girl Scout’s annual Fall Council Meeting in October.

“Cindy Baden is a true role model for the girls and adults she works with in Girl Scouting,” said Marge Martindale. “Cindy shares her Girl Scout knowledge along with special tips and ideas for troop activities. She recognizes helpers in special ways that add to the experience.”

Mary Cay Crissman serves as a volunteer consultant helping new leaders by sharing her many years of Girl Scout experiences. Even though her daughter graduated, she continues to support Wildwood Service Unit.

“Brandy Gustafson’s enthusiasm is contagious to both girls and adults of Wildwood Service Unit,” said Martindale. She was responsible for getting area Girl Scouts volunteers on e-mail and teaching a class on computers. “She has earned the title of ‘our computer expert.’”
Karen Hazlett has been a Girl Scout leader since 1996 when she received Wildwood Service Unit’s Rookie Leader of the Year award. Hazlett has served as Daisy troop consultant, Brownie consultant, membership recruitment coordinator, and service unit manager.

Carmela Simmons is a Girl Scout leader and a member of the service team, currently serving as religious recognitions coordinator and press corps representative. She shows her dedication to Girl Scouting by sharing her bilingual skills at recruitment events.
