Program Activities

Register for program activities online! The Activities and Events Online Registration System (AERS) is a tool for our web visitors to use to register online for Events and for Program activities.

In order to register for any activity, you must have an online account with the Council. If you do not have an account, you may create an online account. Once your account has been created, you will be able to log into this system and register for events, program activities, or training.

You do not need an account to browse the information available on the site.

Aquatics Weekend

Baby-sitting Classes
Course designed to teach girls how to handle emergencies, prevent accidents, and to instill competent baby-sitting practices. Learn some first aid and rescue breathing skills too. For more information contact Kathy Elliott at 713-292-0224 or kelliott@sjgs.org.

Backpacking
Backpacking groups have organized weekend trips on a monthly basis from October to April. Not only is backpacking a great way to keep fit, but it is also a great way for novice backpackers to gain skills and to meet more people who share the same interests and love for the outdoors. Big Boats

Breast Cancer Awareness

Brownie Girl Scout Magic

Canoeing
Girls can go troop canoeing at Camps Robinwood or Agnes Arnold or Whispering Pines with a certified leader or participate in the Council’s canoeing and paddle stroke workshops. Career/Technology Fairs

Carousel
Troop camping is such fun at spring and summer Carousel. As you go around Camp Robinwood, girls may participate in activities such as swimming, canoeing, paddle boating, hiking, and possibly even archery! Don't miss this pre-planned event! Conservation

Council Patch Programs
These patch programs are special recognitions for girls developed when girls, volunteers, or staff members discover areas of interest not included in the Girl Scouts of the USA recognition programs. Council Puppetry Troupe
GSSJC has puppets and scripts addressing contemporary issues. Girls can bring issues to life while the puppets do the acting. Training includes lip synchronization, gestures, posture, and more. For more information contact Melinda Gaskill at 713-292-0232 or mgaskill@sjgs.org.

Counselor-In-Training (CIT)

Day/Twilight Camps

Earth Day

Earth Pact
Girls earn try-its and badges at workshops given by a specialty group of girls 11-17 (Cadettes and Seniors) known as Earth PACT (Plant, Animal, Conservation Team). For more information contact Rebecca Tirrell at 713-292-0353 or rtirrell@sjgs.org.

Engineering, Science, Technology Day
Many facilities open their doors to teach girls about science and math during special days for Girl Scouts. For more information contact Julie Deeter at 713-292-0203 or jdeeter@sjgs.org.

Equitation
There are multiple opportunities for girls of all ages to participate in horse activities. Troops or groups camping at Camps Silver Springs, Agnes Arnold, Robinwood, or Misty Meadows can register for “Weekend Camper Riding” sessions and take a trail ride or work in the ring. Girls 13 years of age or older can become SPURS (Super People Using Riding Skills) and be involved with the equitation program. Family Camping

First Aid Classes

Fencing
Through a collaboration with the Bayou City Fencing Academy, girls can receive professional instruction on how to master the skills of this exciting sport. Girl Planning Boards
Girls have a democratic hand in the planning of events that affect them. For more information contact the Program Department at 713-292-0300.

Golf
In a collaboration with the Girls Golf Club, Girl Scouts have the opportunity each month to try their hand at golfing. Sessions are free of charge and girls learn all the basics from qualified instructors. Girls who have advanced from the basic level will play on course. Green Starlettes Drill Team
The hugely successful Green Starlettes offer dance clinics for troops and groups as well as opportunities for  individual girls to join the Green Starlettes team. The girls often perform their dance skills at professional events such as half time performances with the Houston Comets and Rockets or at University events,  and Council events. Health Initiatives

High Adventure - Challenge Course
Camp Silver Springs is the location for the Council’s awesome challenge course. You may be flying down the Zip Line, climbing the cargo net or challenging yourself on the pamper pole. Indoor Rock Climbing
GSSJC offers Girl Scout Days and “Lock Ins” at Texas Rock Gym located in Clear Lake and Memorial. A fun three hours where girls and leaders can learn the basics of climbing, belaying, and hand and foot techniques and then advance to the more challenging overhangs. Juliette's Tea Party History Event

(Kappa Delta) Share a Story Program

Lifeguards

Sport clinics are often organized during the year with various local professional sports teams. Red Cross Instructors

Sailing
The sailing program has opportunities for girls to become Mariners (Mariners are girls who have passed the Red Cross Basic Sailing certification) through Instruction weekends, Aquatics weekends and resident camp.
